Vintage Film: 1940′s Chicago
A vintage film for reference of city life in the 1940s. This firm has a primary focus on billboards in Chicago, which I think is especially helpful reference when trying to create the feel of an era. It also includes shots of Chicago street cars and elevated lines.
Of special note, the billboards in the film have primarily white backgrounds, which makes sense from a cost-of-ink standpoint. However, most modelers seem to use full-color billboards which may not be prototypical. Just something to keep in mind for the future.
Also, I notice that many railroaders cut or score their billboards vertically to represent individual panels (applied like wallpaper). In this film however, the billboards are not put up as panels at all, but as thin, individual squares. Interesting.
