The Dominion Trust Building

I built the Dominion Building because I needed a structure that will eventually go on an odd shaped piece of property on my layout.  I discovered the prototype and knew it would be a perfect fit but was hesitant to build it because it was way beyond what I was capable of building, my wife looked at it and said “I think you can do it”.  So without knowing what I was getting into I began work on the building in November of 2007, it had a hiatus of about six months, it this gap I completed many smaller structures.  Taking this break was the smartest thing I could wave done, In that short gap my scratch building skills grew dramatically,   so I redid a all of the windows I had previously framed in, touched up many spots that I had done poorly and added more detail that I would have previously not attempted.

The building turned out different than I had originally envisioned, but I will say that it is better than what I was planning.  A few major changes that took place were the color and I finished off the back because I decided to enter it into a model competition at a local show and it was awarded Best of Show.  The original color choice wasn’t going to be quite as striking as the current version because I wanted it to be a subtle background building.  Also because of it being a background building there was no reason to detail the back of the building.

Over all I am very proud of my Dominion Building, the amount if skill it taught me and the many wonderful people I have met because of it have been wonderful.  To learn more on how it was built please go to my former blog to read my weekly posts that I wrote during construction.

I have to admit that if there is one model structure I keep coming back to it's this.....It's a real pity that you didn't make a video diary of building it from start to finish....I'm not aware there is anything available which instructs such a thing for the public to buy...I think if there was we might ignite more interest and bulk out our contributers....Chris...take note....You can do it......
