Printable Details: Assorted Neon Signs

Scratch Building Neon Signs

Recently, I provided an article about scratch building neon signs for the insides of your N scale stucture windows.

As I pointed out, one of the most challenging aspects of creating a neon sign is the design itself.  This is especially true for modelers who don’t have the appropriate software or skills to create the design from scratch.

To help get you started with adding neon to your layout, we have put together an assortment of neon designs for you. These are already sized for N scale, and should work well inside of a DPM kit or any larger window opening.

Save and Print the Designs

To use the designs below, click on the image to open the full-size viewing window, then save the full-size version and follow the directions provided in the original neon-building article.  Typically, to save an image from the Web, right-click your mouse on the full-size image and select “Save As”, “Save Target As” or something similar.  The specific process for saving the image may be slightly different depending on your individual Internet browser and setup.

Hi Frank, Thanks for post about GIMP. Will try that.I should have told you what I did before but will explain now. On the art studio i built the first floor as a box.Enclosed so only front windows will be light on it. I saw on ebay a way a man did his and copied from that.So actually the only 2 windows with light will be front ones.Sorry I should have said so in first place. The only thing that may be a problem is I detailed the inside with all kinds of stuff. people doing art and a desk and chairs and pictures on wall.I thought I would do them and see because I made it where I can remove the whole building from base so can see inside of it.How doI find my pics.Go to what you made already and see if its there.??? Yes I am blonde.
Sorry I didn't look first before i wrote this. i wish I could send you a pic of my scratchbuilt bait shop.I have spent 3 weeks making it and would like some insight from you and Chris before going to show later in year.
I did this one same way so you can remove the whole building from base and detailed inside.I even made the trees handmade for this one.as wellas i am making El camino for man who runs bait shop.
For my art studio i used a Dpm Reed bookstore for it.I was going to cut and make it higher but didn't do that.I am not experienced enough for that yet.
I am going to do a building Great Scaper did next. The tomix 4044 building he has sitting next to his 7-11 building, except I am making mine taller on those. Hopefully it will work ok.He is so good .
Sorry so long winded. Thanks for everything. Pam

Yo Yo Frank.... thanks for the work you and Chris do here man... you helping me make my structures even more awesome... thanks again for the signs... it's the little things like that that make it or break it when it comes to looking real or looking like a plastic model...well painting weather and other detailing also...lol... thanks man... Happy Easter to yours and Chris's families ...Tim

Pam, I'm not sure about GIMP. I've recently read that other people use that as well, but I haven't personally tried it. Maybe try the CNET version of it: http://download.cnet.com/GIMP/3000-2192_4-10073...

Also, as for the sign, I can certainly create a sign for you. However, I just want to point out that when doing "neon" like this, because the windows are "blacked out" where you add the sign, it usually looks odd to have the neon window blackened and other windows lit and detailed. So I tend to try to add neon to business that would make sense for it to be very dark inside. Know what I mean?

Hi Frank Happy Easter to you and your family. I love the signs thank you.I tried downloading the GIMP Program that man was talking about but when I did it said the files were corrupted.Don't know if I did something wrong but it was for the latest version of it.2.6.6 version.
I am asking for a personal request.I need a sign like this for a design and art studio I made. I need it to read Lee Anne's
    Art Studio.
The demensions of windows are 18 mm wide by 12 mm high.I was hoping maybe you could make a sign for me.I would much appreciate it.It is a lighted and detailed interior on it so this would just make it stand out so much more.I hadn't done any thing with front windows and this will work perfect.
If you have a chance to make this much appreciated.I love your web site and am glad you have such agreat site to read about. Thanks, Pam
