Idaho Building

idahobuildingplans

Built in what was considered to be Boise Idaho’s “skyscraper era” (1903-1913) when many four to six story buildings were constructed.  This was the only one to be designed by a non-Boise firm by the name of Henry John Schlacks of Chicago.

It was finished in 1911, a time of prosperity for Boise and was titled as Boise’s “First Skyscraper” by a local newspaper.  Also in this boom time, some thought that Boise would become the next Chicago because of the rapid growth, largely sparked because of this building.

Standing at six floors tall, 122′ wide at the front and 105′ deep is hardly considered a “skyscraper” today but in the era and locale of the structure, it was a large building.  The design in the second Renaissance Revival style and is covered with a brick and stone facade with a galvanized iron cornice.
