Chicago Odyssey, Volume 1

These two film clips are part of a two-disc rail fan video called Chicago Odyssey, Volume 1 by Green Frog Productions.

While these are short promotional segments running between 5 and 10 minutes each, they contain a wide range of full-color video of many railroads including Sante Fe, Milwaukee Road, Rock Island and Illinois Central. The video was shot by rail photographer Emery Gulash in the Chicago area during the 1950s and 60s.

As Green Frog’s description says, “witness the end of steam on a few roads and the birth of the diesel as the mainstay of power for freight and passenger.”

The full-length video has a running time of 2 hours and may be purchased directly from Green Frog Productions.

I have both of these on DVD and would recommend them to any train lover. Another thing that is great is to see how much Chicago’s skyline changes in a 20 year span.

Tim if you read this, in part 2 at 2:00 min in the film shows passenger train operations at Union Station, in the background it the post office that you and I want to model and also is a tower that I plan on building for my new . . . . ah, I will stop there.

Volume 1 was worth the viewing just for the shots of the C&EI/L&N/ACL/FEC Dixie train. Thanks for posting these!
