N Scale Wall Ad: Veedol Oil

Veedol motor oil was one of the most popular brands of the Tidewater Oil Company, which sold gasoline, oil and other products along the East Coast.
You may be more familiar with Tidewater’s best known brand, Flying A. Flying A Gasoline was an existing brand of the Associated Oil Company, which merged with Tidewater in 1938. After the merger, Flying A became the primary brand for most of Tidewater’s products. However, the Veedol name continued to be used for the company’s line of oils and lubricants.
Note: Model Railroader magazine featured a Flying A/Associated kitbash of an N scale City Classics Crafton Avenue Service Station in Model Railroader Special Edition: How to Build Realistic Layouts 4.
About the Wall Advertisement
Because wall ads by General Outdoor Advertising followed a standard design, this free N scale sign for Veedol Oil is identical in style to the Camel cigarettes adprovided recently. This Veedol design would be appropriate for about 1946 or 1947.
Using the Wall Ad
As I mentioned on the article for the Camel ad, this type of ad would be painted onto the building surface. Therefore, it would be best to follow the directions provided in our Make Your Own Decals article using white decal paper. Typically, to save an image from the Web, right-click your mouse on the image and select “Save As”, “Save Target As” or something similar. The specific process for saving the image may be slightly different depending on your individual Internet browser and setup.
