N Scale Letters

How many times have you wanted to add three-dimensional lettering to your structures for signage, only to find that your choices for good N-scale-sized letters are extremely limited

I’ve seen a couple of comments on N scale letters on our forum as well as other places on the Web, usually resulting in the same end result, “these letters are sort of OK, but a little large”. I’ve also personally looked for suitable lettering, only to find that almost everything on the market is larger than what I want.

Well, look no further.

 VectorCut letters

A company called VectorCut produces small lettering that is intended, and is advertised, as HO scale. However, these letter sets contain perfectly laser-cut letters that range from around 22″ to 26″ in N scale. At that size, these are quite possibly the smallest letters I’ve seen and probably the best option available for the N scale modeler.

VectorCut currently produces lettering in three styles:

  • Lunchenette — approximately 22″ and 26″ in N scale; $10.00
  • Art Deco — approximately 29″ in N scale; $8.50
  • Classic Railroad Station — approximately 29″ in N scale; $12.00

Each letter set is cut from resin-coated cardstock, .015″ thick — a meer 2.4″ in N scale!

I ordered mine almost one year ago and I remember being absolutely thrilled by them. Unfortunately, I misplaced them until just recently and when I saw them again, I was shocked at how well done these are.

I’d highly recommend ordering a batch and experimenting with adding them to your structures. If anyone beats me to it, send us photos and we’ll add them to this article!

For comparison, these letters came from the Bar Mills Billboard in a Bag set.

Plastic Letters

I’m not sure who manufacturers these, but I don’t think they’re made specifically for model railroading — just small letters. I picked these up at a train show a couple of years ago. Many modelers use letters similar to these.
