Articulated Buses

John, an N Scale Limited reader, recently wrote to us asking if we could help him locate articulated city buses in N scale.  He is specifically looking for a 1979 Gillig bus.

John says that he’s found a Mercedes-Benz Citaro G by Rietz in Germany for about $18.95 but these are not available in US-based paint schemes. He’s also been able to find an article by Blaine Bachman about kitbashing Faller car system buses.

Does anyone else know of another source for articulated buses or seen these done in N scale?

I think my personal suggestion, John, is to try and repaint the Rietz buses. They seem well constructed, with clean lines and could potentially be disassembled for easy painting. A little masking and some decals and I think you could easily transform that into an American model.

Sounds like a tall order to me. Frank’s suggestion is probably the closest you’re going to get to any articulated bus in N-scale. The only model company that specifically made buses was Pirate Models Ltd. last I heard they were no longer in the model business.

I would have to agree with Frank and Will. I don’t believe I’ve seen any articulated in N scale except for the Rietz model. Looks like that one would be quite passable as an American bus.
